Undergraduate Biology and Mathematics Training and Research Experience 2003-2010 University of Louisiana at Lafayette This project started in September 2003 and is funded by the National Science Foundation. Our objective is to provide interdisciplinary training to undergraduate students in mathematics and biology.
The two-year program involves specialized courses and training in field techniques, mathematical modeling, population dynamics, and experimental design. Students are paid an annual stipend of $5,500.
Students conduct field studies and develop demographic models of green tree frog (year one) and Louisiana iris (year two) populations. Results of these studies are presented as posters or oral talks at scientific meetings such as the Southeastern Ecology and Evolution Conference.
